While Las Vegas is undeniably a destination for showcasing your best self, and best selfies, in front of iconic landmarks and signage, there’s something else that appeals to the city’s millions of visitors (and locals): surprises.
Las Vegas excels at offering places and experiences you won’t find anywhere else, and now, as Rio Hotel and Casino continues its celebrated renovation and reinvention, the resort destination is welcoming back its most beloved surprises: The Wine Cellar Tasting Room. A hidden gem, but not so-well-kept secret, is the surprise that lies at the heart of Rio, offering private and semi-private spaces to indulge in a collection of rare and exquisite wines that can’t be found anywhere else in Las Vegas.
With The Wine Cellar Tasting Room now reopened, here are four surprises waiting to be discovered during your next visit:
Uncorking the Extraordinary
Rio’s Wine Cellar Tasting Room famously boasts a collection of extraordinary, and very rare, wins, including Chateau d’Yquem Sauternes, bottled from the 1858s through the 1900s, each with a tag detailing the year and significant historical events. Throughout the years, one of the most talked-about treasures has been a bottle from founding father and former President Thomas Jefferson’s personal collection. Its label has been weathered with time, but once it’s uncorked you can’t help but feel a sense of awe at the history behind the bottle.
Also among the rare gems: a 1924 Mouton Rothschild, priced at $200,000. History in a bottle, it represents a significant shift in wine tradition with its unique aging, bottling, and labeling process, and further showcases the Cellar’s unparalleled collection.
That ‘Where Are We Again?’ Feeling
Las Vegas is a sight to be seen, for sure, but everyone knows the best experiences are those that seemingly transport you to a place far beyond where you are. The Wine Cellar Tasting Room fits perfectly into that category. Nestled in a beautiful rock setting reminiscent of wine regions of Italy or California’s Napa Valley, it’s an intimate backdrop guided by seasoned wine stewards and sommeliers. That’s ideal if you’re looking for a tasting experience without feeling overwhelmed by the energy of Las Vegas.
Did Someone Say Tasting Experience?
The Wine Cellar Tasting Room can be customized to create a tailored tasting experience for whatever you have in mind, whether it’s a private or semi-private event. You can opt for an exclusively curated menu or wine flights, and there will always be a seasoned wine steward, including resident expert Hung Nguyen, to guide you throughout the journey.
However, just because it’s the Wine Cellar doesn’t mean that’s your only option. If you prefer, there is a vast selection of tequilas, whiskies, and bourbons available to whet your whistle.
You Can Take It With You
You can’t sip a selfie, but you can take home tasty memories of your Wine Cellar visit. Guests have the option to extend their enjoyment by purchasing bottles and cases of their favorite wines, allowing them to savor the flavors long after they depart.
The Wine Cellar Tasting Room is open Mondays through Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., and Sundays from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Reserve a Wine Tasting Experience online here.
